Locals love the old Sugar Wharf!

They love the Sugar Wharf as a beautiful spot for a relaxed stroll or for the chance of throwing a line in and landing a fish for dinner.

But, in particular, many remember the artistic painting, sculptural and culinary experiences that they have enjoyed there over the years, as tourist boats glide past on their way to the Reef, or in the evening, sipping a cocktail, watched over by a luminous full moon.

When the Port Douglas Artists group of professional artists was invited by Douglas Shire Council to exhibit there during Carnivale 2018, they accepted with pleasure, accompanied by a feeling of nostalgia for those days.

In keeping with those memories, it was decided to treat this opportunity to connect with the community in this space as part ‘retrospective’ – a mixture of recent, older and brand new works – all definitely colourful!

Thrown into the mix are demonstrations of oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, weaving and fibre arts by Tania Heben, Diana Abiad, Terry Johnson, Gail Shaw, Jeff Whitehill, Joy Shand-Culley and others.

Jeff and friends will also enchant you with ‘musical interludes’ from time to time during the exhibition.

So come and meet the artists and enjoy yourself.

Look out for new talent and be prepared to snap up a bargain!
